about

In 2010 I walked away from playing music full time. I didn’t intend to stop playing music entirely but it happened.

Somewhere around 2018 I realized I was missing that creative outlet and decided I needed to find a way to make music again. I didn’t have a drum set anymore and didn’t have the time or desire to join a band anyway so I dug out an old NI Maschine MK1 I had in the basement and started trying to figure out how to chop samples and make music on my own.

In 2020, 10 years after I’d walked away from music, I decided I was ready to put this album together. However, as the end of 2020 came I struggled to finish mixing and mastering the album. As 2021 rolled along I moved on to other projects periodically coming back to this one to try and wrap it up only to walk away again. There are a dozen excuses I could make around what was holding me up and why it wasn’t ready to release. The mixes, the masters, the artwork, the rollout plan etc. They’re all just excuses though.

I woke up today and realized this year is passing fast and I’ve spent much of it holding myself back from creating anything new because I haven’t seen this release through yet. I started making music again to fulfill a creative need - not to make music on any professional level. I’d love to be validated by people enjoying this music but in the end it really doesn’t matter much if anyone else hears it. It’s served its purpose in helping me feel whole.

So I threw some artwork together and am putting it out now on a Sunday evening. No roll out plan. No cool video for IG. No single or teaser. It’s just time to let this one go and move on to creating again. Because that process and feeling of creating music is what this was about in the first place.

I hope it finds its way to some of you and I hope it moves you like it moved me creating it. If so - share it with someone you think will enjoy it.
